National Drug Take Back Day Recognized Oct. 25, Beverly Police to Host Take Back Event
National Drug Take Back Day is a bi-annual event that provides an opportunity for residents to dispose of their unneeded medications in a safe, simple way. This year’s fall event will occur on Oct. 25. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s campaign aims to educate the public on the importance of the safe disposal of prescription drugs, and the dangers of leaving medications in homes.
Beverly Police Department will be holding a Drug Take Back event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the station, 175 Elliot St. Residents can bring their unused, expired, or unwanted prescription drugs to the station for safe disposal. Sharps will not be collected.
Prescription drugs must be disposed of carefully; if they are simply thrown in the trash, they could be retrieved to be sold or abused. If they are flushed down the toilet, they risk contaminating the water supply. By participating in Drug Take Back Day, the public is able to dispose of their medications in a way that protects their communities.
