Beverly Police Warns Senior Citizens About Computer Scams
BEVERLY — Chief John G. LeLacheur and the Beverly Police Department want to warn senior citizens about ongoing scams involving gaining remote access to home computers.
As part of the scam, citizens are asked to give access to a computer company or anti-virus company electronically and remotely. At some point, funds are asked to be wired for the “services needed” to fix a problem. Wire transfers are especially suspicious. Wire transfers are not a typical payment method for these types of services. Many times this money is unrecoverable.
Residents should not give remote access to their computer at any time.
