A message from Chief John G. LeLacheur
Law enforcement is one of the most visible services our city provides. The conduct and effectiveness of police services influence our quality of life and the future of our neighborhoods.
Effective policing can be seen and felt when we walk through our neighborhoods in the evening or when we are at play at a city park with our children. It affects our confidence in the future of our city.
The citizens of Beverly have been clear on what they expect from their police department. They have asked for increased community education and outreach programs; they want their police to be more directly involved in their neighborhoods; they want their police back in the schools and out on streets on walking and bike patrols; our citizens want to be treated fairly, with respect and dignity; and they want their police to have the tools to do their job most efficiently.
To best address our community’s needs, police and citizens must come together in partnership as the most effective method to prevent crime and raise the quality of life. A relationship of trust and openness between police and our community is essential.
The Beverly Police Department has developed a Community Advisory Council to bring together members of our community and police in a dynamic exchange of ideas to continuously enhance the responsive, professional, and courteous delivery of law enforcement services to the citizens of Beverly.
Together we have opened more significant lines of communications, developed clear initiatives to tackle community problems, and established closer partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
My commitment to the men and women of the Beverly Police Department is to be fair in my judgment and clear in my expectation; to always be open to innovative ideas; to work relentlessly to provide you the modern tools, training, equipment, and leadership that will allow this department to efficiently and safely protect the people of this great city; to challenge you constantly to improve yourself and to improve the professional policing that you provide to this community; and to make you proud when you say, “I am a Beverly Police Officer.”
